Using The SAVERS Method for your Morning Routine

Hi. Anthony Manly here from selfmanagebusiness.com. Today I want to talk to you about starting your day off in the right way. And one of the processes that I’ve implemented, it’s taken me quite some time, but I have implemented it in the last probably three to four years, is a consistent habit of having a morning routine.

Now the specific morning routine that I use is one that was by an author by the name of Hal Elrod.

And he created a book, or wrote a book called “The Miracle Morning”.

Now, what is laid out in this book is a process that he calls The SAVERS Method.

What does savers stand for in miracle morning?

The SAVERS Method

And I’m going to walk you through what each one of those letters stands for. So the very first part of your morning when you first get out of bed, what a lot of people do if you’re not familiar with having a consistent routine or even acknowledging that you should have a consistent routine, is understand how it can set you up for success throughout the day.

Now with how he came up with this idea that SAVERS would set you up for a successful day ahead. The miracle morning hal elrod.

So let’s start with the first letter, which is S.

The S stands for Silence.

Now first thing in the morning when you first wake up, if you sit there and have meditation, say, for example, a small three to five-minute meditation, it can calm you and get you in the right mode of thinking for the day. Relaxation works best and it’s about mindfulness.

The A is Affirmation.

And a lot of people think that’s a little bit woo woo and they think to themselves, well, I’m not going to just read out an Affirmation every day. If you take on board reiterating an Affirmation to yourself, you’d be very surprised at how positive the impact is upon you.

So myself, I sit down with my diary and I write out each one of these acronyms that are well, each one of these letters that I’m walking you through right now.

And when it gets to Affirmation, what I do is I have a list of Affirmations for the week that I want to focus on for the day. And it’s up to you what you choose to do. You can Google Affirmations, you can find Affirmations, you might hear something, you might find something on the internet or social media that just resonates with you and that’s what you’re looking for.

The V is Visualization.

Now there’s a great guy from that I’ve learned a lot of things, especially around NLP. A lot of people think NLP is a bit woo-woo.

But there’s a gentleman by the name of Chris Howard and what he has got is what’s a process called strategic visioning.

Where you put the goal out there into the future.

See yourself inside of that goal or achieving that goal and then bring yourself back to now and understanding.

Well. What are the steps that I need to do to achieve that?

Now, what I like to do is sit there and say to myself, okay, what have I got to achieve today?

What are the top three priorities that I have and what is the end goal for each one of those priorities?

I only choose three because my mind can only cope with three.

Some people can go to five. I would not suggest multitasking, but visualization. If you want to look up Chris, look up Strategic Visioning. And he’s got a process. I think it might be on YouTube.

It will help you understand what he’s talking about.

The E is Exercise.

So you’ve got to get yourself moving for the day, whether it be 45 minutes to an hour walk, or it could be surfing, or it could be anything that you choose that gets you moving.

It could be going to the gym. As long as you exercise first thing in the morning, it will set you up for a successful day.

The R is about Reading.

So what you should aim to do, and I learned this off Andy Frascella, which is from the 75 Hard programs. For those of you that have never heard of 75 Hard, google that as well.

Great program. And what he suggests is that every day forces yourself to read ten pages of a book.

Now, I don’t just mean any book, I mean a book. A physical book can’t be like an iPad, like an electronic book. What you should do is get yourself the physical book and read ten pages. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you, but if you form that habit and get into that routine of reading ten pages, you’ll be surprised at how many books you can read within the space of 75 days, which is what 75 Card is all about.

The last letter, which is an S in Savers, is Scribing.

So sit down and just write out what’s on your mind for the day.

What I like to do is journal every day, and in that journal, whatever pops into my head. I just sit quietly for the first 30 minutes and just understand what’s popping up in my head.

What am I thinking? What are those thoughts that are bubbling to the top?

What’s good is to do this after you’ve exercised and you’ve got out of the shower.

Now, just because I rattled those off in that order doesn’t mean you have to do them in that order.

However, how came up with the SAVERS process, it’s up to you. You could potentially be saying discipline, I’m going to scribe first thing in the morning and then I’m going to meditate.

Do it however it works for you and one thing I will say is if you repeat this every day over some time, you’ll be very surprised at how quickly and how calmly you can work through your goals and the days in front of you.
