My Thoughts on The Very Addictive New App Called Clubhouse

If you’ve been hanging out on social media recently, you’ve probably heard of Clubhouse.

This new platform lets people chat in real-time, share stories, collaborate and bounce ideas off of each other using their voice.

In the app, you can enter into different rooms to listen or participate in a conversation. Your able to see who else is there and can also see their profiles.

The person who made the room is the one who manages the speaking privileges for participants.  It takes the “media” feel right out of social media,

But Clubhouse is exclusive.

So far, it’s a very hit and miss how exactly you get on Clubhouse. It’s definitely invite-only.

You can currently go to the App Store and download it to reserve your username, but without an invite text, there isn’t much you can do yet.

Just like at a real social event, users can start off in the main room with many other people, and then break into smaller groups for side conversations. There is no requirement to speak.

I first heard about Clubhouse through word of mouth. It was approximately two weeks ago, and a friend in a business group I’m a member of posted about Clubhouse, asking if any of us had been invited to Clubhouse, I immediately began searching Goole™ for the “clubhouse app”, impatience and severe FOMO fuelling me to download the latest technological trend.

As soon as I created my username and entered my mobile number I was quickly disappointed to receive an on-screen message stating I would receive a message shortly notifying me that I was invited onto the platform.

I quickly became frustrated as many of my friends who had access began posting how many people they were meeting, big names in the business world and Silicon Valley.

Frustratingly, you can’t see anything about the app unless you’re invited to join or you’re a celebrity.

After continually asking my friends for an invite I finally obtained one, and I immediately began exploring rooms. The app appears on your phone like all apps and once you’re in, Clubhouse feels both chaotic and exciting.

You’re greeted with a pretty plain-looking homepage that lists the discussions that are happening at that time, as well as chats scheduled for later.

Integrates with apps and tools that you already have

Clubhouse works with existing tools, services, and workflow. You can link your profile to Twitter™ and Instagram™, receive notifications, and even create a Story in Slack.

What kind of conversations are being had on Clubhouse?

A bringing together of live podcast-style conversations, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and advantageous multiple-room use, the social-media app mimics real-life interactions.

My thoughts

It’s very very addictive moving from room to room and asking for advice from people that would normally be beyond your reach.  Overall I’m realizing it’s a social media tool that’s there to be used however be mindful it can easily use you.
